Original iPhone chargers and cables in Kenya: how to spot a fake
A poor charger can charge slowly, overheat and put your battery at risk. Here is how to choose the right one in Kenya. We have not listed charger prices here because they vary a lot between genuine and copy products, and that gap is exactly what to watch for.
Which charger does your iPhone need?
- iPhone 15 and newer, including the 17 and 18 series: USB-C.
- iPhone 5 to iPhone 14: Lightning.
- iPhone 4s and older: the old 30-pin connector, which is now hard to find.
A USB-C wall adapter works with all recent models. You just need the right cable. For fast charging, Apple recommends a USB-C adapter of at least 20W.
How to spot a fake
- Price: a price far below other shops is the first warning sign.
- Print: look for neat, even text on the adapter. Fakes often have blurry or uneven print.
- Weight and finish: genuine adapters feel solid and have clean seams.
- Warning message: if your iPhone says "This accessory may not be supported", stop using it.
- Heat: an adapter that gets very hot during normal charging should be replaced.
Third-party chargers can be fine
You do not have to buy Apple's own. Look for reputable brands and, for Lightning cables, the "MFi" (Made for iPhone) label. Avoid unbranded chargers from street stalls.
Earphones and other accessories
iPhone 7 and newer have no headphone jack. iPhones with Lightning need Lightning earphones or an adapter, while iPhone 15 and newer use USB-C or Bluetooth.
If your battery drains quickly even with a good charger, the battery itself may be worn. See our battery replacement guide.
What to buy for the phones we sell
Our iPhone 13 and other Lightning models need a USB-C to Lightning cable for fast charging. The iPhone 15 Pro Max and the 17 and 18 series use USB-C. Ask us on WhatsApp if you need to know what is included with a specific phone.
