iPhone XR price in Kenya: is it still worth buying?

The iPhone XR was a popular, colourful, affordable iPhone. In 2026 it needs a closer look, because it no longer gets new iOS versions.

These are asking prices from other sellers' listings, checked on 2 November 2026. We do not list the XR and have not verified these prices.

Refurbished listings we found ranged from about KSh 43,000 for 64GB to about KSh 55,000 for 256GB. Some of these may be outdated, and individual sellers may ask much less. Do not overpay: an iPhone 11 is newer, and we found it listed for less.

What you get

A 6.1-inch LCD display, the A12 Bionic, one 12MP rear camera, a 2,942 mAh battery and Face ID. Storage options are 64GB, 128GB and 256GB. There is no 5G.

The software problem

The XR stopped at iOS 18. It will still work for now, but apps will gradually drop support, and it will not receive new features. That is why we would look at newer phones first.

64GB, 128GB or 256GB?

The XR's 64GB version fills up quickly, while 128GB is a more comfortable choice. Prices rise with storage, but the difference should be weighed against simply buying a newer phone.

Where to look

You will find XR phones on Jumia, Jiji and at repair and resale shops around Nairobi, and many are refurbished. See our guide to where to buy. Ask if the screen or battery has been replaced, because an aftermarket display can look duller and may show a warning in Settings.

Who might still want one?

The XR can work as a basic phone for WhatsApp, calls, social media and casual photos while apps still support it. It has a large, easy-to-read screen and Face ID. But since it has stopped getting new iOS versions, it makes sense only at a low price, and only if you accept that it may lose app support sooner than newer phones.
